Tour FAQs 2018

WHAT ARE THE DATES OF TOM’S 2018 TOURS?

Tour #1
Wednesday, June 27
to Friday, July 6, 2018
…to Counties Donegal, Mayo & Clare

Tour #2
Friday, July 6 to Sunday, July 15, 2018
…to Counties Cork, Kerry & Clare

We recommend that you arrive a day early so you will be rested and ready to go the next morning. That’s what most of the group will do, and most of us will meet for an optional informal get-acquainted dinner the night before the tour proper begins.

We will send you a list of B&Bs that we work with in the town of Bunratty, in County Clare near the Shannon airport—and we are happy to assist with booking your room for that night.

Don’t forget, you have to leave the US on the day before you expect to arrive in Ireland because the flights are usually overnight.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST AND HOW DO I PAY?

The *standard prices for our tours in 2018 will be $2,400 per person sharing (twin/double occupancy)—that’s $4,800 per couple or pair of roommates—and the single room rate will be $2,900. (Single room availability is limited.)

*This includes all ground transportation, 9 nights in small quality hotels or B&Bs (including breakfast each day), 3 evening group dinners, all pub music and private shows—with some of Ireland’s very best musicians and singer/songwriters.

If you prefer fly to Dublin, there is excellent, affordable bus and train service to the west coast.

WHERE DO WE STAY?

We will stay in very nice small hotels with breakfast included. Since we will travel around during the days and come back to our base hotel in each location, you won’t need to worry about packing up and moving every morning.

WILL WE TRAVEL ON A BLUE HIGHWAY?

Well, we don’t think so, but you will see incredible shades of green!

One big plus for our group is that our superb Irish guide and skilled Irish driver are well versed in all things Irish. They are helpful and informative in the best ways, and they are quite adept at herding cats—plus they have that warm, wry Irish sense of humor.

We will also from time to time enjoy informative and entertaining day guides or local specialists who’ll add color and depth to our tour.

WILL I LOVE THE RAIN?

Yes you will! That is, we hope you will, because Ireland’s is a maritime climate–think Seattle or Vancouver in the summer–and the weather is sometimes all seasons in one day. We’ll give thanks for our sunny days and roll with the flow if it rains and blows.

HOW DO I JOIN THE TOUR?

Send us an email as soon as possible by emailing us at ireland(at)tomkimmel(dot)com and letting us know of your interest. We can also answer your specific questions. Our long time friend Vicki Belinoski will be coordinating the tours from the US side, and once you’ve signed on for the trip she will be staying in close touch and supplying all the info you’ll need. (Of course Tom Kimmel will also be available, once you’ve registered for a tour.)

Remember that this is a small, personal tour with limited space on the bus. Tours generally fill quite early, so if you are interested please email us as soon as possible. Once you are on board for the trip, we can start making plans!

Note: You do not need a visa to visit Ireland, just a valid passport.

ANYTHING ELSE WE NEED TO KNOW?

Yes, here are a couple of phrases you might want to know in Irish, the Gaelic language that is still used in some parts of Ireland that we will visit.

Fáilte sounds like: “FALL–cha”
—Means: Welcome!

Sláinte sounds like: “SLAHN–cha”
—Means: Cheers! (To your health!)

Again, for more information or to sign up for the tour, please email us at ireland(at)tomkimmel(dot)com.
