1. Greetings!

Hey I'm just home from the annual FAR-West conference, and boy the people in the Northwest sure are nice. Hope to play out there more regularly. A recent trip to the upper Midwest was likewise enjoyable. Good people everywhere. (And I'm enjoying my 3 whole days at home this week before I head down to Texas for a sweet weekend of shows in Dallas and Austin!)

2. News

a. Music News

i. A Special Edition of the film "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" will be released Dec. 31 and will come with a CD of love songs that'll include my song "When You Know" (written w/ Jeff Franzel). Originally recorded by Shawn Colvin for the film "Serendipity," it also showed up in an episode of my grandmother's favorite soap "As the World Turns." You can pre-order DVD/CD now at Amazon.com

b. Book News

i. Audio Book! As I write this, the audio book (32 selections from "The Sweetest & the Meanest") is being pressed and printed, and advance copies and downloads will be available within a couple of weeks. The "official" release will happen early in 2008, but as soon as I have hard copies I'll make some available for purchase and download. I'LL SEND YOU A SPECIAL E-BLAST SOON AS I KNOW THE EXACT DATE.

ii. My poem "Tanja" will be featured in the next issue of the literary journal "The Distillery."

3. Drawing Board

i. Speaking of "When You Know," my version will be included in the new collection (CD) of my film and TV songs, due for release in February or March. The album's tentatively titled "Never Saw Blue Like That" and will feature 11 songs I've written or co-written that have been heard in films or television shows... plus my 5 favorite "rejects" - songs written for films and summarily dismissed!

4. Recommended

Sally Barris's new album "Restless Soul." As most of you know, Sally's one of my favorite singer/writer peers, and her new work is her best yet.

And congratulations to Sally for Trisha Yearwood's recording of Sally's song "Let the Wind Chase You," out November 13 on Trisha's new album "Heaven, Heartache and The Power Of Love."

5. Food for Thought

"The most dangerous creation of any society is the man who has nothing to lose."
James A. Baldwin

6. Perspective

I hate to admit it, but when it comes to footwear my "fashion before function" days are nearing an end... because most stylin' shoes and boots just aren't very comfortable! So I always have one eye out for reasonably hip footwear that's easy on the feet.

With that in mind, the other day my wife turned me on to my new favorite pair of shoes, a brand called "TOMS." No kidding, that's the name, but here's what's cool about TOMS shoes: 1) They mold themselves to your feet with about 6 hours of wear and are all-day comfortable; 2) For every pair of shoes purchased, TOMS gives a pair of shoes to a child without shoes. In fact, TOMS has already given away 10,000 pairs of shoes in South America and is in the process of giving away 50,000 pairs in Africa.

So check out TOMS shoes: www.TOMSshoes.com

[My shoes are the men's black burlap. Ultra hip.]
