Well, Everybody,
For me, this is just one of those
unfathomable, strange things, like Crop Circles or the 87 pound cat in the photo
someone sent me last week. [And he wasn't fat, either.]
I tuned in to
"Touched By An Angel" on Sunday -- of course I did! -- and sure enough, they used
my song "Shallow Water." First time I heard it I was excited. Then it played again,
and I was amazed. About the fourth time, I cried. By the sixth time I was in shock.
And there was another time or two, plus a couple of scenes where someone recites
part of the lyric. What can I say? And when I'M speechless, you know something's
going on.
The episode "Shallow Water, Part One," will of course will
be followed by "Shallow Water, Part Two," which will be the series' season finale,
and it will again feature the song. It airs this coming Sunday night, May 20 (at
8pm Eastern, 7pm Central) on CBS. Guest stars again include Randy Travis, Faye
Dunaway, Keb' Mo' (that's right, Keb' Mo'!), Nell Carter, Delta Burke, John Schneider
et al.
Now get this, I was informed today that "See Myself In You," which
I wrote with my good friend Tom Prasada-Rao -- www.tomprasada-rao.com
(and was also recorded by Randy Travis for his "Inspirational Journey"
album) will also be featured in this next episode.
Whew! No, I'd never seen
an entire episode of the show before last week, but honestly I'm thrilled that
millions of people are hearing these songs... because they're songs that have
inspired me, songs that speak to me, songs that hold up for me... songs I'm proud
of.
There, I said it!
I'm not promising you'll enjoy the show.
It is what it is, and it's not everyone's cup of tea. I may never watch it again.
But amazingly it's the top rated drama on CBS. I feel like Kevin Costner's naive
young Eliot Ness in "The Untouchables," charging in on a raid, calling to his
boys, "All right, Men! Let's do some good!"
Very best wishes,
Tom
