tomDear Friends,

I'm beginning to think of my songs as notes in bottles tossed off beaches, dropped from bridges, set adrift in rivers. They disappear, sometimes for years, sometimes never to be seen (or heard) again. But now and then one turns up in the strangest of places. Thus, no one was more surprised than I was when I got a note last week telling me that Randy Travis' rendition of my song "Shallow Water" will be featured in the next 2 episodes of the television show "Touched By An Angel." In fact, the episodes are called "Shallow Water, Parts 1 and 2," and Mr. Travis guest stars along with Faye Dunaway. Can you believe it?

Here's what's posted about the first episode at the CBS web site:

"Shallow Water: Part One"

The angels are on a mission to help a woman learn the truth about the death of her beloved family, in part one of a special two-part season.

Faye Dunaway, David Canary (All My Children), Rue McClanahan, Delta Burke, Randy Travis, John Schneider, Kevin R. Moore, The Gaithers and Nell Carter guest star in part one.

Diana Winslow (Delta Burke) was the road manager of her family's traveling musical group, The Winslow Family Revival, until a terrible argument between her stepfather, Carter Winslow (David Canary), and her brother-in-law, Jed (Randy Travis), led to a tragic bus accident that killed many of the large Winslow clan. Now Monica must help Diana move past her guilt and find a way to bring the remaining family back together.

Faye Dunaway stars as Diana's therapist. Rue McClanahan, John Schneider, Kevin R. Moore, Nell Carter and The Gaithers star as members of the singing Winslow family.

Is this stranger than fiction or what? Now I've actually never watched "Touched By An Angel." Not all the way through, anyway. From what I've seen, it's a bit on the sappy side. My sister Molly is partial to it, however, and she says I should let everyone know....

Truthfully, "Shallow Water" is a special song to me, and I'm very pleased that Mr. Travis included it on his recent album "Inspirational Journey." The song has been a blessing to me in many ways, and I'm very pleased that millions of people will hear it over the next couple of weeks.

Very best wishes,
Tom

ps BTW, my new web site www.tomkimmel.com is nearing completion -- there's a cover page up now -- and the whole new site should be online in about a week! If you're looking for my version of "Shallow Water," it's on my live album, "Bones."
