Don’t Go

Song Notes

–I can philosophize about the ethics of broken promises or psychoanalyze our culture’s collective abandonment issue, but when it comes down to it, I just hate being left. One particular relationship with a sudden unhappy ending inspired this one.

If you say you’ll never leave, don’t leave me
If you promise to be true, be sure
True is walking down this line
And it lasts a real long time
If you say you’ll never leave, don’t go

Once I give you everything, demand it
If I swear my love is real, OK
You can stand on solid ground
When the world is falling down
The way we’re standing here today

If you swear with blood and wine to be faithful
You don’t walk in here and say you don’t know
If you call less than this a crime
Against this love of yours and mine
And you say you’ll never leave, don’t go

If you swear with blood and wine we’re not crazy
Or we’re crazy but it’s love we’re crazy for
If you call less than this a crime
Against this love of yours and mine
And you say you’ll never leave, don’t go
If you say you’ll never leave, don’t go
