Tom Kimmel’s October News

1. Greetings!

Fingers crossed, fall has actually arrived to South Mississippi. Lows in the 40’s all week!

—I pray that wherever you are, you are enjoying the changing season.

2. A teaspoon of News:  Working away + Coming up next year…

a. Working away…Hmmm. I don’t have much I can actually SHARE at present, but I like to think what I’m writing and recording will BEAR FRUIT worth sharing when the time is right.

b. Idaho 2018

My recent (August) Idaho river experience was truly spiritual reset. A reconnection with essential things. And a load of fun.

Now… to my delight I’ll be hosting another musical rafting trip in 2018 for Middle Fork River Expeditions—this time on the Main Stem of the Salmon River. We got a taste of the Main Salmon at the end of our August trip, and I’m excited beyond words to be going again.

If you’d like to join me—or learn more about it—I’ve updated the Rafting page at my website with lots of the info.

I don’t know my 2019 tour routes just yet, but for sure we’ll be exploring Ireland’s beautiful, rural west coast. (Most tours closely follow the Wild Atlantic Way, visiting areas from Cork to Donegal.)

3. TK Poem of the Month

My heart is heavy for friends in California suffering and enduring the crazy fires. My heart is with you. Reaching for anything worth sharing, I remembered this tiny prayer my mother once sent me….

Dear God
of second chances
and new beginnings,
here I am again.

4. October Food for Thought

“… whenever you think or you believe or you know, you’re a lot of other people: but the moment you feel, you’re nobody-but-yourself.”

-e e cummings (American poet)

5. Recommended: The Hidden Life of Trees (book) & Marshall (film)

a. Did you know that if a tree in the forest is hurt or suffering its nearby “kin” will nurse it by passing along extra water and nutrients through their roots? Or that trees will literally warn each other of impending danger?

That’s a little of what I learned reading…

The Hidden Life of Trees
—by Peter Wohlleben

(The author writes with uncommon insight and understanding. And thanks to poet/artist Kenneth Robinson for the gift of this book.)

b. Marshall (film)

This biopic covers a compelling chapter in the life of a young Thurgood Marshall, first African-American U.S. Supreme Court Justice. It isn’t perfect, but—speaking personally as a child of the Civil Rights Movement and old-into-New South—I hope you’ll see it.

Rolling Stone says: “…an electrifying glimpse of a great man in the making.”

Washington Post: “…more involving than any textbook or documentary could be.”

6. Looking for Booking: In 2018…
