A Small, Unique Writers Retreat with Tom Kimmel, June 5-11, 2016
Calling All Songwriters!
Spend a week with me in June working with your songwriting art and soul and in a private, beautiful setting in North Carolina’s Blue Ridge Mountains. Our past retreats have been so sweet we’ve made it an annual event!
I will host a small group of (up to 8) writers for a week of hands-on writing, sharing, relaxing and celebrating our creative spirits.
Cost of the week is $800 to $1400, which includes 6 nights’ lodging, first-rate catered meals, tailored instruction and one-on-one mentoring. Bring your heart, your curiosity and your willingness to explore, hone your skills and enjoy yourself.

From the Doe Branch Ink website:
Doe Branch Ink is a writers’ retreat located on 50 acres nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina…. We organize facilitated writing experiences for 6 to 8 guests with successful writers in residence who are also proven teachers.
….We welcome writers of all levels to our workshops; what matters is a sense of purpose and willingness to participate in a supportive community. During the week you will have substantial time for individual writing, interactions with a writer-in-residence, evening sharing and optional recreational activities.
….Above all, Doe Branch Ink offers time away from daily activities and time to write and talk to others about writing.
A Note from Tom on the Retreat
Our small circle is open to all songwriters (and poets). As we will be a small group, we can be flexible with our approach to work.
Our daily schedule will likely include a short instructional circle each morning, followed by an optional writing assignment with a collaborator for the day’s work. If any participant is bringing a project or work-in-progress that he or she prefers to focus on, they’re welcome to work with their ongoing project. Either way, I’ll be available for feedback and assistance, as desired.
After dinner most nights we’ll circle up again to share some of our day’s work–and to simply have a good time sharing songs.
Speaking of feedback, I offer it in a clear, warm and supportive way. I have found that quality feedback in a generous community context is immensely valuable!
Note that we’ll be having delicious, healthy, catered meals, and there will be plenty of other time to socialize and hang… or for quiet time alone as we wish.
Our group will convene late Sunday afternoon, June 5. We’ll get a general orientation to the property by host/proprietor Jim Roberts (a great guy)—and Jim will be available to us all week. We’ll get acquainted and have an opening reception and dinner.
Before we head off to our beds on Sunday evening we’ll form our circle and talk briefly about our plan of work for the week (individually and collectively).
Our first formal session will be Monday morning after breakfast.
